Details

The AI Deployment Engineering team is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications for developers and enterprises. The team acts as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers, building a backlog of GenAI use cases and driving them to production through strong technical guidance. As the leader of AI Deployment Engineers in the Digital Native segment you will help technology and software companies transform their business using solutions such as customer service, automated content generation, and other applications leveraging the newest models.

This role is open in OpenAI's San Francisco office and uses a hybrid work model (3 days in the office per week). The posting also lists New York City as a location. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy and operating model of the AI Deployment Engineering team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and evolving customer needs.
  • Lead, build, and mentor a team of high-performing AI Deployment Engineers to deliver exceptional customer outcomes (measured by production customer applications and increased API adoption).
  • Serve as the technical advocate for customers, synthesizing their needs to inform Research and Applied Product/Engineering roadmaps.
  • Manage the entire implementation journey for strategic technology and software customers in the Americas, ensuring seamless platform integration.
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point during development, maintaining direct communication with executive-level stakeholders and fostering trust.
  • Serve as an industry thought leader, championing safe and innovative application of the technology across sectors.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in a technical customer-facing role, managing technical and business relationships with complex global organizations.
  • 2+ years of experience leading technical post-sales teams, with demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and manage technical teams.
  • Experience leading complex implementations of Generative AI and/or traditional ML solutions.
  • Knowledge of network and cloud architecture.
  • Industry experience with programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Strong communication skills capable of translating business and technical topics to all audiences and mentoring others.
  • Demonstrated humility, eagerness to help others, and willingness to learn missing knowledge to help the team and customers succeed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range listed for this role: $251K - $335K (offers equity).
  • Base pay may vary by market location, skills, and experience. Total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonus(es).
