AI Research Engineer - Post Training - SF Or Palo Alto

Perplexity is seeking top level AI Research Engineers to continue to improve their in house Online LLMs, the Sonar models. The role involves leveraging a rich query/answer dataset to scale Sonar model performance and provide the state-of-the-art (SOTA) Online LLM experience to users.

Responsibilities

• Post-train SOTA Large Language Models (LLMs) on query answering using the latest supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.
• Own the full stack data, training, and evaluation pipelines required to post-train LLM models.
• Deliver Sonar models that provide state-of-the-art query answering.
• Work closely with engineering teams to integrate Sonar models into the product.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with large-scale LLMs and Deep Learning systems.
• Strong programming skills; versatility is a plus.
• Self-starter with willingness to take ownership of tasks.
• Passion for tackling challenging problems.
• Minimum of 2 years experience working on relevant projects.

Nice-to-have

• PhD in Machine Learning or related areas.
• Experience in post-training LLMs with SFT/DPO/GRPO.

Compensation

• Cash compensation range: $190,000 - $260,000 per year.
• Final offer amounts vary based on experience and expertise.
• Equity may be part of the total compensation.
