Details
OpenAI’s Applications Engineering organization builds and operates the products that bring cutting-edge research to millions of users and developers worldwide. The Applied Foundations team owns the core product and platform layers that make those experiences possible — from identity & access, to safety to payments & commerce across all of our apps. This role is on the Applied Foundations team and focuses on building high-quality, reusable Android foundations and core mobile experiences used across OpenAI’s mobile ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain core Android mobile experiences related to sign up, account management, family features, payments, and safety.
- Design and implement reusable Android foundations and client-side systems that product teams across OpenAI depend on.
- Own complex client-side systems spanning UI, networking, local state, and payment integrations.
- Integrate with platform-specific features, including Apple platform integrations when applicable.
- Collaborate closely with backend, product, and safety partners to shape architecture and ensure reliability, security, and trust at global scale.
Requirements
- Up to 6 years of professional software engineering experience (the posting indicates candidates with up to 6 years may thrive in this role).
- Proven track record of building high-quality Android applications in production.
- Fluent in Kotlin (and/or Java).
- Familiarity with Android development tools and Android architecture components.
- Strong focus on performance, security, and user experience in mobile development.
- Enjoy working cross-functionally with product, backend, and safety teams.

- Base salary range listed: $255,000 - $325,000 (USD). Total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses.
