Details

NVIDIA is hiring an Apache Cassandra Database Engineer in Santa Clara, CA to help define and build the evolution of NVIDIA's Cassandra ecosystem. The role focuses on large-scale, stateful systems supporting high-throughput, low-latency production workloads and requires partnering with developers and operations teams to improve availability, fault tolerance, consistency, and multi-region durability.

Responsibilities

  • Define long-term strategy and platform capabilities for Apache Cassandra at NVIDIA.
  • Build self-service provisioning, scaling, multi-tenant controls, and coordinated observability for Cassandra clusters.
  • Operate and manage stateful systems that power critical cloud services at scale.
  • Partner with application developers to design effective, scalable, and long-lived schemas.
  • Lead architectural improvements to improve availability, fault tolerance, consistency, and multi-region durability.
  • Establish operational standards for schema governance, disaster recovery, backup and restore, and resource management.
  • Debug and resolve production issues across multiple layers of the infrastructure stack.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building distributed systems with deep understanding of Cassandra internals (replication, compaction, GC tuning, JVM performance).
  • Experience managing large fleets of database clusters, including building tools, monitoring, capacity planning, backups, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, ELB, ECS, API Gateway, WAF, and VPC, including provisioning automation.
  • Strong system-level fundamentals including operating systems, hardware, and networking.
  • Clear understanding of the tradeoffs in distributed system consistency, failure modes, and partition tolerance.
  • Proven ability to deliver impactful solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Ways to stand out

  • Experience with HashiCorp Vault and integrating it into deployment processes and application security.
  • Experience with data protection technologies including encryption, key management, data loss prevention, and hardware security modules.
  • Contributions to open-source distributed database projects.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranges provided by level:
    • Level 4: 168,000 USD - 264,500 USD
    • Level 5: 200,000 USD - 322,000 USD
  • You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
