OpenAI’s IT team powers the technology that enables our people to do their best work. We build and support systems that are reliable, secure, and easy to use so that every employee can move fast and collaborate effectively. The IT team supports corporate infrastructure, networking, AV systems, endpoint management, and IT support, creating a thoughtful, high-quality user experience for every person at the company.

This role is a full-time, onsite position based in the San Francisco office (five days a week). You will lead OpenAI’s global ITAV event support function, driving support for executive meetings, team events, all-hands, and high-profile productions across offices. The role is highly hands-on and requires technical depth across AV production tools, AV-over-IP, video conferencing integrations, and enterprise networking, combined with a service mindset and calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the global ITAV event support program and event space technologies.
  • Own AV event planning end-to-end: design, coordination, and on-the-ground execution.
  • Operate, program, and configure event AV systems (examples given: Yamaha, Vizrt, Panasonic, Ross, Analogway, Reidel, Clearcom).
  • Serve in key AV event roles (Technical Director, Video/Audio Engineer, Graphics, QA).
  • Support events ranging from executive offsites to company all-hands and multi-office productions.
  • Build and maintain scalable ITAV event processes in partnership with workplace and events teams.
  • Troubleshoot AV issues, manage escalations, and proactively maintain reliability across environments.
  • Travel as needed to support AV setup and operations at other OpenAI locations.
  • Mentor junior teammates and document processes to scale knowledge across the team.
  • Provide feedback to AV Engineering to continuously improve AV infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience supporting and running internal AV events in fast-paced tech environments.
  • Expertise with enterprise AV systems and production technology (examples: QSC, Yamaha, Vizrt, Ross, Barco, Blackmagic).
  • Deep familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies such as QSC Q-LAN, Dante, NDI, and Crestron NVX.
  • Hands-on experience with video conferencing tools and their integration with enterprise AV setups (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex).
  • Experience operating and programming event AV systems (Yamaha, Vizrt, Panasonic, Ross, Analogway, Reidel, Clearcom).
  • Experience managing AV requests and support through ticketing systems with SLA tracking.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts as they relate to AV systems.
  • Ability to calmly troubleshoot under pressure before, during, and after events.
  • Strong documentation habits, a high bar for quality, and a passion for creating a reliable AV experience.

Benefits

  • Base pay shown: $225,000 (role also offers equity). The base pay offered may vary depending on individual factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts (Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, commuter accounts).
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Paid parental leave and caregiver leave; flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
  • 13+ paid company holidays and scheduled office closures, plus paid sick/safe time as required by law.
  • Mental health and wellness support; employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend; daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees and additional taxable fringe benefits (e.g., charitable donation matching, wellness stipends).
