Backend Engineer - .NET

Details

Build a new backend domain from the ground up. You will help shape a completely new digital backend domain at Eneco, focused on heat delivery and energy transitions.

High ownership in a small, senior team. You are the backend authority in the team, with real influence on architecture, logic, and long-term maintainability.

Technology with direct customer and sustainability impact. Your work directly improves how customers move towards sustainable heating solutions, with fewer errors and less friction.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own backend services in .NET for a new digital product domain.
• Translate business rules and operational constraints into clear, maintainable backend logic.
• Design backend services that support complex customer journeys without exposing complexity to the user.
• Make architectural and technical decisions that balance customer experience, operational reality, and long-term scalability.
• Ensure backend decisions are consistent, explainable, and resilient to change.
• Safeguard backend quality through clean code, testing, and clear API contracts.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Frontend to enable simple and trustworthy customer journeys.
• Contribute to Eneco-wide backend standards and best practices through your seniority and experience.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with .NET / .NET Core in complex, business-critical environments.
• Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native backend services in Azure.
• Proven ability to work with Azure DevOps (ADO) and fully automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Senior-level ownership mindset: comfortable making decisions in domains that are still evolving.
• Strong communication skills in English, able to align technical solutions with product and business stakeholders.

Team / Where you’ll work

You will join a newly formed, app-first product team responsible for designing and building digital heat onboarding and delivery flows for Eneco customers. The cross-functional team includes:

• A Product Owner
• A freelance Product Designer
• A Frontend Engineer (50%)
• You, as the Senior Backend Engineer
• An Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager helps keep priorities clear, removes blockers, and supports you in doing your work well. You are trusted to take ownership and are given the space to do so.

• Gross annual salary between €80.000 and €11.000 (including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on your role a bonus or collective profit sharing).
