Backend Software Engineer - Finance

Perplexity is an AI-powered answer engine founded in December 2022. The company has raised significant venture investment and aims to build accurate, trustworthy AI to power decision-making. Perplexity Finance is a fast-growing product that enables retail investors to perform financial research. This role focuses on building backend systems for the finance dashboard and integrations with Perplexity Search and Comet to deliver premium-quality financial data and decision-making tools to users globally.

Tech stack: Python, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, FastAPI

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and scaling of backend systems that power web, mobile, and browser products.
• Build scalable systems that ingest and process data from the web, files, and other sources.
• Optimize interfaces that interact with databases and caching systems.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to understand product requirements.
• Work closely with AI, Search, and Data Science teams to iterate on non-deterministic systems (e.g., LLM-driven features).
• Manage a complex orchestration system with many moving parts and interfaces.
• Scale, optimize, and load-balance multiple services with rapidly changing needs.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Python.
• Strong experience with databases and caching systems.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure at scale.
• Experience working with high-scale data and non-deterministic systems like large language models (LLMs).
• 4+ years of engineering experience.

Compensation & Benefits

• Cash compensation range: $180,000 - $300,000 per year.
• Equity: Equity may be part of the total compensation package.
