Details

Anthropic is seeking a Web Editorial Designer specializing in content-driven web design and digital storytelling to help bring AI research, insights, and complex technical concepts to life through compelling editorial web experiences. You will craft thoughtfully designed web pages that transform dense research papers, policy insights, and AI safety concepts into accessible, engaging digital narratives for researchers, policymakers, journalists, and the general public. This role sits at the intersection of design and technology and requires strategic thinking about content presentation as well as exceptional design craft.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of web experiences that transform complex AI research, policy papers, and technical documentation into accessible, engaging digital narratives using CMS platforms.
  • Build flexible design systems that maintain brand integrity while adapting to different content types and publication needs.
  • Transform technical research into compelling digital narratives through thoughtful information architecture, data visualization, and interactive storytelling.
  • Establish and evolve comprehensive design systems, standards, and workflows specifically for editorial content, setting organizational standards for research publication design and cross-team collaboration processes.
  • Pioneer new methodologies for presenting technical research online.
  • Work strategically with design engineers to translate complex editorial designs into scalable, performant web experiences, providing clear design specifications, technical requirements, and iterative feedback while understanding development constraints and opportunities to enhance editorial content presentation.

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in editorial design (digital publishing, news organizations, research institutions, or content-focused web design), with examples of transforming complex information into clear, engaging web experiences.
  • Deep understanding of typography, information hierarchy, and content organization principles, with experience designing for long-form content, research publications, or educational materials.
  • Experience working with researchers, academics, journalists, or policy experts to translate complex subject matter into accessible web content.
  • Ability to create clear, accurate visualizations and infographics that support editorial content.
  • Hands-on experience with content management systems and low-code tools, and an understanding of how to optimize for editorial workflows.
  • Strong commitment to creating accessible web experiences that serve diverse audiences, including those accessing technical content in multiple languages or with varying levels of subject matter expertise.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams with non-design stakeholders (content creators, researchers, editorial staff) and the ability to translate feedback into effective design solutions.
  • Ability to balance high editorial standards with practical constraints, making thoughtful tradeoffs while maintaining accuracy and quality in fast-paced environments.

Logistics

  • Education requirements: At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Location-based hybrid policy: Staff are expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more time in office.
  • Visa sponsorship: Anthropic does sponsor visas and retains immigration counsel; sponsorship may not be possible for every role or candidate but the company will make reasonable efforts if an offer is made.
  • Expected annual salary range: $260,000 - $305,000 USD.

Benefits & Culture

  • Competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office space for collaboration.
  • Collaborative, research-focused culture valuing communication and impact; work centers on large-scale research efforts and advancing long-term goals in safe, steerable AI.

Additional information

  • The role involves close collaboration with Research, Policy, Communications, and Editorial teams and requires translating complex AI concepts into visually compelling web experiences. The role emphasizes design systems, editorial standards, and close partnership with engineering to deliver performant editorial web pages.
