This role is for a Web Editorial Designer specializing in content-driven web design and digital storytelling. You will design editorial web experiences that translate dense AI research, policy insights, and technical concepts into accessible, engaging digital narratives for diverse audiences. You will work closely with Research, Policy, Communications, and Editorial teams and collaborate with design engineers to deliver scalable, performant web experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of web experiences that transform complex AI research, policy papers, and technical documentation into accessible, engaging digital narratives using CMS platforms
• Build flexible design systems that maintain brand integrity while adapting to different content types and publication needs
• Transform technical research into compelling digital narratives through information architecture, data visualization, and interactive storytelling
• Establish and evolve comprehensive design systems, standards, and workflows for editorial content and cross-team collaboration
• Pioneer new methodologies for presenting technical research online
• Work strategically with design engineers to translate complex editorial designs into scalable, performant web experiences; provide clear design specifications, technical requirements, and iterative feedback while understanding development constraints and opportunities

Requirements

• 8+ years of brand and/or web design experience
• Strong portfolio demonstrating editorial design experience (digital publishing, news orgs, research institutions, content-focused web design) and examples of transforming complex information into clear, engaging web experiences
• Deep understanding of typography, information hierarchy, and content organization principles; experience designing for long-form content, research publications, or educational materials
• Experience working with researchers, academics, journalists, or policy experts to translate complex subject matter into accessible web content
• Ability to create clear, accurate visualizations and infographics that support editorial content
• Hands-on experience with content management systems and low-code tools, and an understanding of how to optimize for editorial workflows
• Strong commitment to creating accessible web experiences for diverse audiences, including multi-language and accessibility considerations
• Experience working in cross-functional teams with non-design stakeholders and translating feedback into effective design solutions
• Ability to balance editorial standards with practical constraints and make thoughtful tradeoffs while maintaining accuracy and quality in fast-paced environments
• We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Compensation

• Annual base salary: $260,000 - $305,000 USD
• Total compensation package includes equity, benefits, and may include incentive compensation

Logistics & Other Details

• Locations: San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY
• Location-based hybrid policy: staff expected to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more office time)
• Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas, but not every role/candidate can be successfully sponsored; offers will be supported with reasonable effort and an immigration lawyer
