Role summary
ClickHouse is recruiting an experienced engineer to join the Observability team. The team builds and operates the telemetry platform that powers both internal monitoring and the observability features customers rely on. The platform ingests trillions of events per day with sustained throughput in the tens of millions per second. Engineers on the team work across software, systems, and infrastructure to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency and collaborate closely with product and infrastructure teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed systems that power observability across ClickHouse Cloud
- Own reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency of telemetry pipeline and storage systems
- Participate in the on-call rotation; drive root-cause resolution and long-term fixes
- Build tooling and automation to eliminate repetitive operational work
- Help shape the observability roadmap by identifying bottlenecks and scaling challenges
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to improve their observability posture
- Contribute to design discussions, architecture reviews, and mentor teammates
Requirements
- 5+ years building and running production systems at scale
- Proficiency in at least one systems-level language (they primarily use Go; C++, Rust, Python are also acceptable)
- Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, and Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Comfortable working with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Familiarity with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar
- Experience with ClickHouse
- Strong production debugging skills, problem-solving mindset, and a bias for action and ownership
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a remote, async-friendly team
- Experience balancing system performance, reliability, and cost; ability to iterate quickly and build MVPs
Compensation (US-based ranges)
- New York Area / San Francisco Area: $135,000 - $232,000 USD
- General US Remote: $114,750 - $197,200 USD
- Los Angeles, CA / Washington, DC: $121,500 - $208,800 USD
- Seattle, WA (full range): $121,500 - $208,800 USD
The final offer positioning depends on candidate experience, qualifications, skills, business requirements, and geographical location.
