About the Team
Security Products was born out of OpenAI’s security research program and is building AI-driven security tools that protect OpenAI’s systems and are being scaled to external customers. The team blends security research with product engineering and operates at the frontier of AI and security.
Role summary
As a Data Engineer on Security Products you will invent and build the next generation of AI-powered cybersecurity products by designing, building, and operating data pipelines, canonical datasets, and analytics that power product insights and security outcomes. This is a high-ownership, fast-moving role working closely with security experts, AI researchers, and product engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and manage data pipelines to integrate user event data into the data warehouse.
- Develop canonical datasets to track security outcomes, engagement/usage, and performance.
- Work directly with internal and external stakeholders to understand workflows and translate them into product experiences.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Infrastructure, Data Science, Product, Marketing, GTM, Research) to enable product success.
- Implement robust, fault-tolerant systems for data ingestion and processing.
- Participate in data architecture and engineering decisions.
- Ensure the security, integrity, and compliance of data according to industry and company standards.
- Help shape engineering culture, architecture, and processes for a growing business unit.
Requirements
- 3+ years experience as a data engineer and 8+ years of software engineering experience (including data engineering).
- Proficiency in at least one data-engineering language such as Python, Scala, or Java.
- Familiarity with public cloud environments (Azure or AWS) and infrastructure tooling (Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.).
- Experience with distributed processing technologies and frameworks such as Hadoop, Flink and distributed storage systems (HDFS, S3).
- Expertise with ETL schedulers like Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar frameworks.
- Solid understanding of Spark and ability to write, debug, and optimize Spark code.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous or rapidly evolving problems.

- Base salary range: $255,000 - $325,000 per year. Total compensation also includes equity and potential performance-related bonuses.
