Details

Anthropic is seeking an early member of the Data Science and Analytics team focused on the API to drive growth, product optimization, and revenue insights. The role sits at the intersection of product strategy, customer insights, and revenue optimization, and will partner closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams to scale Anthropic's API platform while maintaining safety and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • API product analytics: analyze API usage patterns, developer adoption funnels, and enterprise customer behavior to generate actionable insights for product strategy and feature prioritization.
  • Revenue & retention analysis: analyze customer lifecycle metrics, revenue retention patterns, and usage-based billing dynamics to identify growth opportunities and reduce churn.
  • Developer experience optimization: design and analyze experiments to improve API adoption, reduce time-to-value for developers, and enhance developer onboarding and overall experience.
  • Customer segmentation & insights: build models to segment API customers by use case, company size, and behavior to inform product development and go-to-market strategies.
  • Cross-platform analysis: study customer behavior across Anthropic's ecosystem (1P API, Bedrock, Vertex AI) to understand platform preferences and switching patterns.
  • Experimentation & A/B testing: design, execute, and analyze controlled experiments on API features, pricing, and onboarding flows to improve key metrics.
  • Predictive modeling: develop forecasts for API usage, predict customer growth potential, and surface early signals of expansion or churn risk.
  • Enterprise customer intelligence: partner with sales and customer success to analyze enterprise usage, measure feature adoption, and provide insights for account strategy.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data science or analytics roles, with significant experience in API products, developer tools, or B2B SaaS platforms.
  • 3+ years working closely with Product or Engineering teams on API or developer-facing products, with demonstrated impact on product roadmap and strategy.
  • Deep expertise in Python and SQL and strong statistical analysis skills; experience analyzing usage-based billing models and API consumption patterns.
  • Experience with enterprise customer analytics including lifecycle modeling, retention analysis, and revenue optimization.
  • Familiarity with API metrics (adoption rates, integration patterns, rate limiting impacts) and developer onboarding funnels.
  • Proven experience designing and analyzing A/B tests and controlled experiments in technical product environments.
  • Experience working with high-volume, real-time data systems and understanding technical constraints that inform product decisions.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to translate complex API usage data into clear, actionable insights for technical and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience with AI/ML products, large language models, or developer tooling in the AI/ML ecosystem.
  • Background in analyzing multi-platform ecosystems (cloud providers, marketplaces) and understanding platform dynamics.
  • Experience with usage-based pricing models, API rate limiting strategies, and developer monetization.
  • Familiarity with enterprise sales cycles and supporting B2B sales teams with data insights.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS Bedrock and Google Vertex AI.
  • Experience building and maintaining data infrastructure for high-scale API products.
  • Background in customer research methodologies and survey design for developer communities.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, and flexible working hours.
  • Annual salary range: $275,000 - $355,000 USD.

Logistics

  • Location: San Francisco, CA (Anthropic headquarters).
  • Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more on-site time.
  • Visa sponsorship: Anthropic will make reasonable efforts to sponsor visas where feasible and retains an immigration lawyer to assist when an offer is made.
