Details

Drive the Energy Transition by optimizing batteries and diverse energy assets. Make real-world impact with models running 24/7 in a fast-paced trading environment and collaborate across teams using technologies such as Python, Gurobi, Azure, and Databricks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve short-term trading asset scheduling models for an in-house built platform, with an initial focus on battery models.
  • Optimize energy asset dispatch through mathematical modelling (Gurobi).
  • Translate contracts and market opportunities into mathematical models.
  • Design and implement monitoring frameworks for asset performance, based on real-time/realized asset data.
  • Develop and continuously improve models in a robust and reliable manner in collaboration with Business and Tech.
  • Ensure operational stability together with traders, Tech, product managers and dispatchers.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvements, automation and scalability of processes so deployed models have fast feedback loops and real-world impact.

Requirements

  • Quantitative MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Around 5+ years of experience in data science roles; experience in the energy sector or trading is a plus.
  • Experience building and deploying scalable trading and/or optimization algorithms in the cloud.
  • Strong background in Python development: modular/clean code, unit tests and proper monitoring.
  • Experience with SQL databases, Databricks and streaming data.
  • Familiarity with parts of the tech stack: Azure Cloud, Gurobi, Kubernetes, Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake.
  • Ability to understand business problems and translate them into robust data-driven solutions; proactive mindset and drive to get things done.
  • Strong command of English (Dutch is a plus).

Where you’ll work

  • You will join the Analytics & Realization Team within Trade Operations & IT; team size ~18 (junior to senior).
  • Eneco Trading is a fast-paced environment with ~150 professionals across trading, forecasting, operations and IT.
  • Office: Eneco World in Rotterdam (two-minute walk from Rotterdam Alexander station). Work model: hybrid — 40% office, 40% home, 20% flexible. With manager approval, you may work abroad (within approved countries) up to 3 weeks/year, max 2 consecutively.

Benefits

  • Gross annual salary between €86,000 and €120,000 (including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing).
  • FlexBudget (paid out, buy extra holiday days or save).
  • Personal and professional growth opportunities and support for development.
  • Hybrid working and flexible schedule to support work-life balance.

Additional information

  • The role contributes to optimizing a diverse asset portfolio including batteries, CHP, heat grids, CCGTs, e-boilers, wind and solar across multiple energy markets.
  • The position emphasizes ownership, scalable automation, and fast deployment cycles where deployed models can have same-day impact.
