Work on data driven solutions that maximize the value of Eneco’s steerable asset portfolio by optimizing flexibility across short-term power and ancillary markets. You will build optimization strategies, bidding algorithms and machine learning models that operate in fast-moving, real-time energy markets and collaborate closely with teams across Trading, Forecasting, IT, and Operations to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain advanced analytical models for asset optimization, forecasting, and bidding strategies using machine learning and (non)linear optimization methodologies.
- Build optimization strategies and bidding algorithms for a diverse portfolio including gas-fired power plants, renewable assets, batteries, industrial e-boilers, and behind-the-meter assets.
- Design and implement new flexibility value propositions (from grid-scale batteries to behind-the-meter solutions) to enhance customer value and system flexibility.
- Drive automation and scalability; identify and replace manual processes with operationalized, robust pipelines and tooling.
- Work side-by-side with data scientists, traders, forecasters, IT and operations to ensure models deliver business impact and are productionized reliably.
- Continuously improve forecasting, modelling, and decision support tooling to handle large and growing datasets and enable a fast deploy–learn–adjust feedback loop.
Requirements
- Quantitative MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics or a related quantitative field.
- Around 5 years of experience in data science roles (the vacancy also lists 3–5 years).
- Experience building and deploying scalable forecasting, trading and/or optimization algorithms in the cloud.
- Strong Python development skills: writing modular, clean code, implementing unit tests and proper monitoring.
- Experience with SQL databases and Databricks; familiarity with streaming data.
- Familiarity with parts of the tech stack: Azure Cloud, Kubernetes, Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake.
- Ability to understand business problems, prioritize main issues and translate them into robust data-driven solutions.
- Proactive mindset and drive to initiate improvements and get things done.
Benefits
- Gross annual salary between €77,000 and €115,000 (including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing).
- FlexBudget: option to have it paid out, buy extra holiday days or save it.
- Personal and professional growth support and development opportunities.
- Hybrid working: around 40% at the office and 40% at home (the remaining day you decide).
Where you'll work
You will work within the Flex Optimization team for the Trade Community (Eneco's international trading division) based next to Rotterdam-Alexander station (Rotterdam, Netherlands). The environment is complex and dynamic with close interaction between teams in an informal and collegial atmosphere.
