At Coinbase you will help build the emerging on-chain platform and contribute to the company mission of increasing economic freedom. This Data Scientist II role sits at the intersection of Finance, Product, and Engineering and focuses on transforming raw financial and platform data into reliable data products, models and dashboards that support cash flow, payments, reconciliations and safeguarding of assets. The team expects strong craftsmanship in data pipelines, analytics, and automation while working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites). PID: P70930.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to drive initiatives and support new product launches.
  • Partner with Accounting, Treasury and other Finance stakeholders to extract financial data and provide data-driven recommendations to improve financial processes.
  • Design, scope, execute, test and implement data and reporting solutions as a strategic partner to functional teams.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain data pipelines and data models that power dashboards and data products with high craftsmanship.
  • Work with broader Data and Engineering teams to scale systems via better architecture and automation.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and visualizations to present financial insights to stakeholders.
  • Define and execute roadmaps with peers and stakeholders to help the function scale.
  • Produce documentation for new data projects and requests and build collaboration within the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong experience with data processing (ETL) and building data pipelines.
  • Fluency with complex SQL (advanced queries) and high proficiency with a scripting language (preferably Python).
  • Experience using Apache Airflow or similar orchestration systems.
  • Strong understanding of key finance principles and products within Accounting and Treasury domains; eagerness to learn domain specifics.
  • Ability to independently create documentation, prioritize work, and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated cultural fit: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, ownership mindset, and efficient execution.

Nice to haves

  • Previous experience working with financial services data or payments/Accounting/Treasury domain experience.
  • Experience or knowledge of crypto and blockchain technologies.
  • Experience with BI platforms such as Looker or Tableau.
  • Experience manipulating large amounts of structured and unstructured data.

Pay Range

  • Target annual salary range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (actual offer depends on location). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity and benefits.
