Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company powering observability for millions of users worldwide. The Observability Architecture (OA) function partners with customers post-sale to drive long-term adoption, expansion, and successful outcomes using the Grafana stack (Grafana Cloud, Grafana Enterprise Stack, Grafana Mimir, Grafana Loki, Grafana Tempo). This Director role will build and lead the OA team, define strategic programs, and act as the primary technical partner and voice of the customer to Product Management and Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and coach a team of managers and Observability Architects, attracting top talent and ensuring their long-term success.
- Guide the OA team to be a trusted, technically deep partner for customers adopting and scaling the Grafana platform.
- Drive operational excellence to increase consumption, retention, and expansion while proactively identifying and mitigating risk.
- Develop and innovate strategic programs that drive customer success and business growth.
- Collaborate with Engagement Management to define and execute customer lifecycle frameworks.
- Own planning, actions, and outcomes for your teams based on leadership guidance and goals.
- Partner with global Sales leadership on customer programs, marketing initiatives, and events to drive adoption and expansion.
- Provide executive sponsorship for key accounts and act as a thought leader both externally and internally.
- Ensure customer requirements are communicated and met via partnerships with Product Management and Engineering.
- Report on quarter-over-quarter team cadence while supporting prospects with demos, technical deep dives, and trials.
- Manage renewals forecasting.
- Educate and enable users (viewers, editors, architects) on leveraging the Grafana stack.
- Contribute to documentation, blog posts, videos, knowledge base articles, and other enablement materials.
Requirements
- 3+ years leading a post-sales technical organization and 5+ years in the high-tech industry in roles such as TAM Manager, SE Manager, Professional Services Manager, SRE Manager, or Sales Engineer/Architect Manager.
- Direct technical experience in observability or a closely related field.
- Deep operational expertise in observability, monitoring, and data/visualization products.
- Demonstrated success driving customer adoption and solving complex technical challenges.
- Experience mentoring, developing people, and managing performance over time.
- Ability to hire and maintain teams that assist customers in troubleshooting technical issues and conducting RCAs.
- Experience forecasting headcount needs and managing renewals forecasting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for collaborating with remote teams and worldwide customers.
- Experience with open source or cloud-first product lifecycle management is a strong plus.
Compensation
- In the US, the OTE range for this role is $289,000 - $347,000. Actual compensation may vary by level, experience, and skillset. All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
