This role is for an Engineering Manager on the Blockchain Platform team to lead the consolidated wallets domain (custodial wallets) and help define and execute technical and business strategy to build scalable, reliable, and secure wallet infrastructure.

Team Description

The Blockchain Platform team operates the infrastructure that powers Coinbase product crypto verbs — send, receive, stake, bridge, and more. The team operates blockchain nodes, indexers, wallets, and other systems enabling Coinbase users to interact with the crypto ecosystem. The team has expanded Coinbase beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum by integrating L1s, L2s, multichain assets, and additional verbs. The consolidated wallets domain includes Nova, Wallace, Macbeth, Amsterdam, Keychain, and Asset Recovery and powers transactions across 50+ blockchain networks and every crypto token that moves on/off Coinbase platforms.

In-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually). This role is remote-first but not remote-only.

Responsibilities

• Lead the consolidated wallets team (Nova, Macbeth, Wallace, Amsterdam, Keychain, Asset Recovery).
• Develop short- and long-term business strategy and goals; set the technical roadmap and lead execution.
• Support teams in operational activities and incidents to ensure service reliability and security.
• Maintain deep understanding of crypto industry trends and blockchain protocols to drive prioritization and innovation.
• Raise the engineering bar through mentorship and organizational leadership.
• Serve as a key leader and point of contact for partners and senior leaders across the company.

Requirements

• Demonstrated blockchain and crypto domain knowledge (L1s, L2s, multichain assets, tokens).
• Experience owning or operating wallet infrastructure, blockchain nodes, indexers, or similar systems that power on‑chain transactions.
• Strong technical judgment in architecture and design for scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
• Experience with incident response and maintaining high service reliability.
• Experience influencing stakeholders across large organizations and developing long‑term technical strategy.
• Proven mentorship and organizational leadership skills.

Nice to Haves

• Deep experience specifically with custodial wallet systems or large-scale wallet infrastructures.
• Prior experience integrating multiple blockchain networks and tokens into a single platform.

• Pay Range: $201,450—$237,000 USD (target annual salary; offers may include bonus, equity, and benefits).
