Team Information

Where does the price you see on Coinbase actually come from? Behind every trade, chart, wallet balance, and DeFi position is the Asset Data Platform. The team collects, normalizes, and serves asset metadata, real-time prices, and historical data at massive scale—ensuring customers see accurate, up-to-the-second information whether they are trading on Coinbase Exchange, exploring DeFi with Coinbase Wallet (TBA), or monitoring their portfolio performance.

The Asset Data Platform powers hundreds of services at Coinbase and must run under extreme scale and scrutiny; uptime and accuracy are critical. This is a visible and business-critical engineering platform where engineers solve complex problems in distributed systems, scalability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage engineering teams to guide development of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
  • Coach direct reports to increase their impact and support career growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
  • Serve as a thoughtful technical voice within the team, contributing to architectural decisions and fostering high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Work closely with talent/recruiting teams to identify and hire exceptional engineers who align with Coinbase's culture.
  • Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
  • Be hands-on when needed (writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and incident leadership, triaging/troubleshooting bugs).

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience developing web applications and shipping user-facing features with JavaScript and modern, component-based frameworks like React.
  • Familiarity with current trends and best practices in front-end architecture, including performance, security, and usability.
  • At least 2 years of Engineering Manager experience, managing front-end engineers.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands-on when required (code, on-call, incidents, troubleshooting).

Nice to haves

  • Prior experience leading Developer Experience/Productivity, Platform, or similar domain teams.
  • Previous experience at a fast-paced, high-growth internet/software company.
  • Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or other blockchain-based services.

Compensation and Pay Transparency

  • Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
