The Coinbase Compliance Technology Team builds globally scalable systems to meet regulatory requirements, including transaction monitoring, sanctions and screening systems, customer risk scoring, and other compliance solutions that balance regulatory obligations with a seamless customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage engineering teams in the Compliance domain to guide development of features, services, and infrastructure.
- Plan, design, develop, and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools.
- Design scalable systems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a quarterly roadmap.
- Integrate services with Retail and Institutional product teams to deliver customer benefits while maintaining a world-class Compliance program.
- Debug difficult technical problems and improve system deployability, operability, and diagnosability.
- Review feature designs within your product area and across the company for cross-cutting projects.
- Own security, safety, scale, operational integrity, and architectural clarity of designs.
- Build pipelines to integrate with 3rd party vendors and design event-driven system architecture.
- Lead multiple engineering efforts in parallel while maintaining high service quality standards.
- Create and enforce processes to improve engineering quality, AI adoption, and high-impact delivery from each team member.
- Maintain a high bar for recruiting engineering talent and contribute to processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
- Serve as a technical voice within the team, guiding architectural decisions and fostering high-quality code and engineering processes. Ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
- At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
- Ability to be hands-on when needed: writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, triaging/troubleshooting bugs.
- Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services with knowledge of service-oriented architecture.
- Experience working with backend systems utilizing Golang, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Postgres, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with product and design lifecycles and close collaboration with designers, engineers, and product managers.
- Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices.
- Passion for building an open financial system.

- Experience building compliance systems.
- Exposure to financial crimes compliance systems (transaction monitoring systems, enhanced due diligence, screening systems).
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Range: $218,025ā$256,500 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
