At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. We are seeking an experienced engineering manager to lead a team within the Consumer Product Group. The Consumer Product Group focuses on making the Coinbase retail app the easiest-to-use and fastest experience for accessing crypto. Products include the Coinbase app, advanced trade, dapps, and staking. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, but in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites. Attendance is expected and supported.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to develop features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
- Coach direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
- Serve as a thoughtful technical voice in the team, contribute to architectural decisions, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to deliver and operate multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
- Work with the talent organization to identify and recruit engineers who align with Coinbase's culture.
- Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
- Be hands-on when necessary: write/review code or technical documents, participate in on-call rotations, lead incidents, triage and troubleshoot bugs.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
- At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
- Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
- Execution-focused mindset; ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
- Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
- Willingness and ability to be hands-on (code review, on-call, incident leadership, troubleshooting).
- Passion for building an open financial system and an interest in crypto and blockchain technologies.
Nice to haves
- Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
Compensation
- Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
