Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to develop features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to positively impact the organization and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Break complex projects into smaller parts and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Provide thoughtful technical guidance, support architectural decisions, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to deliver and operate multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent organization to recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of software engineering experience, especially handling web-scale traffic.
• Minimum 2 years engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset with ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on capabilities: writing/reviewing code and technical documents, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, troubleshooting bugs.
• Passion for building an open financial system.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services.
• High standard for product excellence combined with customer obsession and comprehensive observability.
• Up-to-date with latest industry standards and best practices.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Crypto-forward experience including onchain activity such as Ethereum interactions, ENS, dApps, or blockchain-based services.

Additional Information

• Remote-first role but requires in-person participation throughout the year including multiple offsites.
• Target annual salary range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
