The team seeks an experienced engineering manager who is passionate about crypto and blockchain and comfortable working in an intense, high-performance culture. While the company is remote-first, in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to develop features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have a positive organizational impact and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a thoughtful technical voice on the team, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and other Engineering teams to ensure delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent teams to identify and recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical docs, participate in on-call rotations and incident leadership, triage and troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset; able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Willingness and ability to be hands-on (code reviews, on-call rotations, incident leadership, bug triage).
• Passion for building an open financial system.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services over time.
• High bar for product excellence combined with comprehensive observability practices.
• Commitment to staying up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.

Nice to Haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or other blockchain-based services).

Compensation & Additional Info

• Job #: GCEM06US
• Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
