The team is remote-first but not remote-only — in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.

The Growth organization builds and leverages growth tools across multiple avenues, including referral and incentives programs, a world-class notifications system, a dynamic logged-out web experience, and optimized new user onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to guide development of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have a positive impact and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a thoughtful technical voice, aid in architectural decisions, and foster high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with Talent to identify and recruit engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Work closely with product and design to articulate and deliver a best-in-class product experience and translate ideas into high-value features.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset; capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Willingness to be hands-on when needed: writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, triaging/troubleshooting bugs.
• Passion for building an open financial system and a high bar for product excellence paired with comprehensive observability.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services over time; up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.

Nice to haves

• Growth engineering experience (major plus).
• Active trading of crypto or other financial instruments.
• Experience through rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience upgrading legacy systems or re-architecting next-generation versions of existing systems.

Compensation

Pay Range (depending on work location and subject to applicable taxes/withholding):

• $207,485 — $244,100 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
• $217,900 CAD (target annual salary for specified Canadian locations).
