Coinbase is hiring for an Engineering Manager on the Growth organization to help bring the world onchain by building and leveraging growth tools (referral and incentives programs, notifications, logged-out web experience, new user onboarding) and optimizing the experience across web and mobile. This role requires strong technical judgement, hands-on experience with production services at scale, and the ability to recruit, coach, and grow high-performing full-stack engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage full-stack engineering teams focused on features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile.
  • Coach direct reports to increase their impact and support their career growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to produce quarterly roadmaps and translate vision into execution.
  • Break down complex projects into iterative pieces and lead design and implementation efforts.
  • Serve as a technical voice within the team, contribute to architectural decisions, and foster high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale, including SLAs and engineering quality processes.
  • Participate in recruiting and hiring efforts to identify engineers who align with Coinbase culture.
  • Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical docs, participate in on-call rotations, lead incidents, and triage bugs.
  • Work closely with product and design to deliver best-in-class product experiences and translate ideas into high-value features.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
  • At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective engineering processes.
  • Execution-focused mindset, able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands-on (coding, on-call, incident leadership, troubleshooting).
  • Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services over time.
  • High bar for product excellence and strong emphasis on observability.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and interest in crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to haves

  • Growth engineering experience.
  • Active trading of crypto or other financial instruments.
  • Experience scaling rapidly (startup -> mid-size growth).
  • Experience upgrading legacy systems or re-architecting next-generation systems.

Location & Working Model

  • #LI-Remote; Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually). Attendance at these events is expected and supported.

Pay Range

  • Target annual salary: $218,025 β€” $256,500 USD (offers also include bonus + equity + benefits).
