This role expects a candidate who is passionate about crypto and blockchain, eager to work with high-caliber colleagues, and prepared to contribute technically and managerially to growth-focused consumer products. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but require in-person participation throughout the year for team and company offsites.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage full-stack engineering teams working across web and mobile.
  • Coach direct reports, support career growth, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps and break down complex projects for iterative design and implementation.
  • Serve as a thoughtful technical voice: aid architectural decisions, ensure engineering quality, and help deliver and operate multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Work closely with talent/recruiting to identify and hire exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
  • Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
  • Collaborate tightly with product and design to create best-in-class product experiences and translate ideas into high-value features.
  • Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical docs, participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, and triage/troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
  • At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
  • Execution-focused mindset; able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands-on (code, docs, on-call, incident leadership, bug triage).
  • Passion for building an open financial system and conviction in crypto/blockchain technology.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services over time.
  • High bar for product excellence combined with comprehensive observability practices.
  • Keeps up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.

Nice to haves

  • Growth engineering experience (major plus).
  • Active trading of crypto or other financial instruments.
  • Experience through rapid company growth (startup β†’ mid-size).
  • Experience upgrading legacy systems or re-architecting next-generation versions of systems.

Pay Transparency

The target annual salary for this position is: $217,900 CAD (target bonus + target equity + benefits may also be included in full-time offers).
