While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a thoughtful technical voice, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work closely with talent teams to identify and recruit engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Work tightly with product and design to articulate best-in-class product experiences and translate ideas into high-value features.
• Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical documents, participate in on-call rotations, lead incidents, and triage/troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes; ability to create an environment that fosters these principles.
• Execution-focused mindset; able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Comfortable being hands-on (coding, on-call, incident leadership, troubleshooting).
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services as they evolve.
• High bar for product excellence, pairing customer obsession with comprehensive observability.
• Keeps up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.
• Passion for building an open financial system and for crypto/blockchain technology.

Nice to Haves

• Growth engineering experience.
• Active trading experience in crypto or other financial instruments.
• Experience navigating rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
• Experience upgrading significant legacy systems or re-architecting next-generation versions of existing systems.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $217,900—$217,900 CAD (target annual salary for this position). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.).
