We are seeking an experienced engineering manager to lead the Payments team within the Consumer Product Group. This role focuses on developing and enhancing the user experience for cryptocurrency payments (send and receive) across web and mobile. The Consumer Product Group aims to make the Coinbase retail app the easiest-to-use and fastest experience for accessing crypto, with products including the Coinbase app, advanced trade, dapps, and staking.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually). Attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aid in architectural decisions, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent/recruiting to identify and hire exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical documents, participate in on-call rotations and incident leadership, triage and troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

• Experience in peer-to-peer payments.
• Experience in crypto, particularly blockchain networks.
• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience leading consumer products.
• Strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset; able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Willingness and ability to be hands-on (code, on-call, incident response, troubleshooting).
• Passion for building an open financial system.

Nice to have

• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Compensation & Additional Information

• Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
