Coinbase is hiring an Engineering Manager to join the Trading team to build and scale the core systems that power crypto trading — from Simple Trade for everyday users to Advanced Trade for professionals, to Derivatives and Decentralized (DEX) trading. This role sits at the intersection of crypto, trading infrastructure, and consumer product, and requires strong technical judgment, people leadership, and experience operating high-performance, multi-tenanted distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams delivering features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports, support their career growth, and create an environment that fosters high-quality code and effective engineering processes.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a thoughtful technical voice, contribute to architecture decisions, and help maintain engineering SLAs and quality processes.
• Deliver and operate multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale with a focus on high performance and high availability for traders worldwide.
• Architect robust systems that support many instrument types (Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures, etc.).
• Work closely with product and design to define best-in-class product experiences and translate ideas into high-value features.
• Participate in hiring with the talent organization to recruit engineers that fit Coinbase's culture.
• Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical documents, participate in on-call rotations and incident response, triage and troubleshoot production issues.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially handling web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code, software engineering processes, and fostering an environment that sustains them.
• Execution-focused mindset able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results while balancing long-term strategy and short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on capability for code review, incident leadership, on-call responsibilities, and troubleshooting production systems.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services as they evolve.
• Customer obsession with a high bar for product excellence and comprehensive observability.
• Passion for building an open financial system and enthusiasm for crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to haves

• Experience working on active trading systems or other high-availability financial systems.
• Personal experience trading crypto or other financial instruments.
• Experience scaling rapidly (startup → mid-size) or upgrading/rewriting legacy systems.
• Experience with Golang, MongoDB, Redis.
• Crypto-forward experience: interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Compensation & Other Details

• Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
