Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams, guiding the development of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have positive organizational impact and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps, break down complex projects into smaller parts, and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Act as a thoughtful technical voice helping architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to deliver and operate multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent organization to recruit engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Own processes driving engineering quality and meeting engineering SLAs.
• Power highly performant, highly available systems for traders worldwide.
• Architect robust systems supporting many instrument types (Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures, etc.).
• Collaborate closely with product and design for best-in-class product experience.
• Translate ideas into tangible, high-value features customers love.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years software engineering experience, especially with web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset, able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
• Balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on ability: writing/reviewing code, technical documents, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, troubleshooting bugs.
• Passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, maintaining production services.
• High bar for product excellence, customer obsession paired with comprehensive observability.
• Up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with active trading systems or other high availability financial systems.
• Actively trade crypto or financial instruments.
• Experience with rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience upgrading legacy systems or re-architecting for next-generation versions.
• Experience with Golang, MongoDB, Redis.
• Crypto-forward experience: interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, blockchain services.

Salary

• Target annual salary range from $218,025 to $256,500 USD.
