Team

The Agent Productivity Tools (APT) organization is part of Coinbase’s Enterprise Applications and Architecture group. APT’s mission is to build a secure compliance platform leveraging technology and human expertise to surface, investigate, and prevent illicit financial activities, improve agent productivity, reduce user friction, and support Coinbase’s goal of onboarding a billion users on chain. APT focuses on building customer experience platforms that streamline service and compliance processes with innovative tools.

Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to extend our platform supporting Coinbase’s goals on security, compliance, and cost efficiency. The role involves joining an agile team focused on delivering value, with an emphasis on continuous learning and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Lead as a Customer Experience, CX Agent Experience, and Technology leader creating secure, scalable compliance tools.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors to evaluate innovative solutions and make build-versus-buy decisions.
• Build and manage an engineering team; guide development of product features and infrastructure.
• Coach direct reports for positive organizational impact and career growth.
• Work with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, product managers, and leadership to turn vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Break down complex projects into manageable pieces and iterate on designs.
• Provide thoughtful technical guidance and support architectural decisions.
• Help recruit and hire talented engineers aligned with Coinbase culture.
• Implement processes to meet engineering quality standards and SLAs.
• Foster an environment for innovation and implementation of ideas.
• Anticipate and adapt to potential issues within operational constraints.
• Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years experience in software engineering.
• Minimum 2 years experience in engineering management.
• Strong knowledge of high-quality code and software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused with ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Skilled in long-term and short-term planning.
• Experience with multi-tenant, distributed systems at scale.
• Passion for efficient human interface tools.
• Dedication to building an open financial system.
• Strong agile mindset and resource orchestration skills.
• Proven ability to build order from chaos.
• Experience with foundational infrastructure libraries (Coinbase Server Framework, rate limiters, memcached/MongoDB clients, circuit breakers, observability).
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CircleCI, BuildKite, or similar tools.
• Experience with two or more of SQL/NoSQL databases, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, or message queues.
• Proficiency in Ruby or Golang.

Salary

The target annual salary range for this position is $186,065 to $218,900 USD, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
