The Agent Productivity Tools (APT) organization within Enterprise Applications and Architecture builds customer experience platforms that streamline customer service and compliance processes. The team’s mission is to build a unified and secure compliance platform that leverages technology and human expertise to proactively surface, investigate, and prevent illicit financial activities while improving agent productivity and reducing user friction.

This role is remote-first with required in-person participation throughout the year (team and company offsites). You will join an agile, tight-knit team focused on delivering value and will be expected to operate with a high level of ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a leader across Customer Experience, CX Agent Experience, and Technology to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient compliance tools.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to evaluate solutions and drive build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Build and manage an engineering team; guide development of product features and underlying infrastructure.
  • Coach direct reports to have a positive organizational impact and chart career growth.
  • Work with engineers, designers, product managers, cross-org stakeholders, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap.
  • Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and iterate on design and implementation with Product and Engineering.
  • Provide thoughtful technical guidance and support architectural decisions.
  • Work with talent teams to source and hire engineers who fit Coinbase culture and product needs.
  • Own and deliver processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
  • Foster an environment where innovative ideas are generated, vetted, and executed.
  • Anticipate issues and adapt approaches to avoid negative impact; communicate complex technical themes clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and software engineering processes and the ability to foster that environment.
  • Execution-focused with ability to navigate ambiguity; capable of long-term thinking and short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenant, distributed systems at scale.
  • Passion for human interface tools and improving agent/user experience.
  • Strong agile mindset and ability to orchestrate technical resources in resource-constrained environments.
  • Proven ability to bring order to ambiguous situations with minimal guidance.
  • Experience building and maintaining foundational infrastructure libraries used in production (examples given: Coinbase Server Framework (CSF), rate limiters, memcached / MongoDB clients, circuit breakers, observability integration).
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CircleCI, BuildKite or similar CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with any two of: SQL/NoSQL databases, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, message queues (MQ).
  • Proficiency in Ruby or Golang.

Pay Range

  • $186,065 — $218,900 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include bonus, equity, and benefits).
