Sentry is on a mission to help developers write better software faster. The Event Streaming Platform is a core technical pillar that ingests, processes, and routes billions of events per day to power real-time insights, automation, and alerting. As the Engineering Manager for the Event Streaming team, you will lead a globally distributed team of engineers, own technical vision, system reliability, and cross-functional partnership, and help shape how Sentry handles real-time data at scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead a globally distributed team working on Sentry's event streaming platform
- Nurture and grow engineers through coaching, mentorship, and career development
- Foster an inclusive, high-performing team culture focused on ownership, learning, and delivery
- Drive the evolution of the event streaming platform, contribute to system architecture, and own key technical decisions
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to build scalable APIs and developer-friendly primitives that abstract streaming infrastructure complexity
- Own the reliability, performance, and delivery of the team's roadmap while promoting technical excellence and cross-team collaboration
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally focused on backend, distributed systems, or infrastructure
- 4+ years of engineering management experience, including growing and managing teams of 10+ engineers
- Experience as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager responsible for architecture, development, and long-term evolution of large-scale, real-time event processing systems
- Familiarity with streaming systems such as Kafka, Flink, Beam, Spark Streaming, or similar technologies
- Strong technical communication skills and a track record of effective cross-team and leadership collaboration
- Proven experience delivering and owning multi-year engineering efforts in a leadership or tech lead capacity
- Comfortable working across organizational boundaries and aligning product, infrastructure, and platform priorities

Work model
Sentry embraces a hybrid work model with Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays set as in-office anchor days to encourage meaningful collaboration. This role is advertised for San Francisco, California and expects hybrid in-office participation per Sentry's policy.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $220,000 to $260,000 USD (actual base salary will be determined by factors including work location, experience, skills, and job-related knowledge)
