Details

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Host Pricing org is forming a dedicated Frontend team to drive architecture and client experiences across pricing, availability, and guidance surfaces. This team will build and maintain reusable, cross-platform design systems and custom surfaces, enabling Airbnb to deliver consistent and high-quality experiences for both hosts and guests.

This role partners closely with product, design, and cross-functional engineering teams to shape the foundation of client-facing architecture across Web, iOS, and Android. The Engineering Manager will provide leadership and technical expertise while advocating for scalable patterns such as GraphQL and modern design system practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a newly created team of client engineers (approximately 10 engineers: 3 Android, 3 iOS, 4 Web), providing clarity of mission and ownership of Airbnb’s Host Pricing frontend architecture.
  • Establish and drive frontend architecture across pricing, availability, and guidance surfaces, balancing performance, scalability, and usability.
  • Advocate for and implement GraphQL-driven patterns to unify client experiences across platforms.
  • Lead the development of a pricing design system: reusable, customizable, and cross-platform frontend components.
  • Partner with designers and engineers to define design language systems and ensure consistent implementation across Web, iOS, and Android.
  • Coach, mentor, and grow client engineers; foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure pricing and availability experiences are reliable, performant, and visually cohesive.
  • Define and drive long-term technical strategy and architecture in partnership with senior leaders.
  • Lead technical initiatives, refine and prioritize engineering requirements, and align technical efforts with business outcomes.
  • Nurture operational excellence: raise the bar for quality, reliability, and availability; drive strong engineering practices from design through production.
  • Retain, grow, and hire high-performing engineering talent; create opportunities for ICs to lead cross-platform technical initiatives.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience managing an engineering team and 9+ years of overall relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong expertise leading client teams across native iOS, Android, and Frontend Web domains.
  • Proven product and design instinct and experience building well-designed user experiences.
  • Experience leading and shipping large initiatives with high business impact.
  • Experience creating and operating at a high level of operational excellence, focusing on quality, reliability, and availability.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience influencing decisions across many engineering teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Flexible leadership style and good judgment in making tradeoffs between short-term business needs and long-term technical quality.
  • Track record of fostering an inclusive and engaging team environment and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience identifying, retaining, and acquiring critical talent.
