Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites.

This role will lead the team responsible for the foundational infrastructure that enables pre-production quality across the company. The team sits at the intersection of developer experience, infrastructure engineering, and product quality, operating core pre-production services, building observability tooling, and driving company-wide operational practices so staging and testing environments provide reliable signals on product quality before release.

Responsibilities

• Hire, grow, and mentor engineers to build a high-performing, collaborative team.
• Provide clarity on goals, success metrics, and career progression.
• Operate and scale critical pre-production infrastructure and services (staging/testing environments).
• Define and implement observability standards for pre-production environments.
• Deliver tooling that enables fast detection, diagnosis, and resolution of issues.
• Lead recurring company-wide reviews of pre-production environment health and adoption.
• Collaborate closely with developer experience, product engineering, and infrastructure teams to align on quality goals.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing infrastructure or platform engineering teams.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience operating and scaling pre-production or staging environments, and implementing observability and operational practices.

Nice to haves

• Strong technical foundation in distributed systems, observability, or DevOps tooling.
• Passion for enabling developers to build and ship high-quality products.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $211,650 — $249,000 USD (target bonus + target equity + benefits may be included depending on location).
