The Engineering Manager role is within the Coinbase Institutional team, responsible for products such as Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Advanced Trade, Custody, Commerce, and Exchange. These serve institutional customers, including hedge funds and experienced traders. The team tackles trading, financing, staking, governance, custody, and API integrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering teams building mission-critical systems for institutional products impacting the crypto landscape.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into roadmaps.
• Break down complex projects into manageable pieces and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Provide technical leadership, fostering architectural decisions and a culture of quality and operational excellence.
• Coach direct reports for positive organizational impact and career growth.
• Work with talent teams to recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase culture.
• Own processes to maintain engineering quality and meet SLAs.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 1 year of engineering management experience.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience with multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on skills for writing/reviewing code, documents, participating in on-call rotations, incident leadership, and bug triage.
• Passion for building an open financial system.

Nice to Haves

• Experience in rapid company growth (from 10 to hundreds of engineers).
• Knowledge of Blockchain technologies including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
• Background in financial, high reliability, or security systems.
• Crypto-forward experience with onchain activity including Ethereum addresses, ENS, and dApps.

The position is full-time and remote eligibility is indicated. The target annual salary is CAD $217,900, with additional bonus, equity, and benefits.
