You will join the Coinbase Institutional team building products for institutional customers (Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Advanced Trade, Custody, Commerce, Exchange) and work on systems for trading, financing, staking, governance, custody and API integrations. Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering teams responsible for mission-critical systems that power institutional products.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to translate vision into a tangible roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
  • Serve as a thoughtful technical voice, making architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality engineering and operational excellence.
  • Ensure successful delivery and operation of complex, distributed, multi-tenant systems at scale.
  • Coach direct reports, support career growth, and recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase culture.
  • Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
  • Be hands-on as needed: write/review code, participate in on-call rotations, lead incidents, triage and troubleshoot production issues.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 1 year of engineering management experience.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenant, distributed systems at scale.
  • Comfortable participating in on-call rotations and leading incident response.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and belief in the power of crypto/blockchain tech.

Nice to haves

  • Experience through rapid company growth (from ~10 to 100s of engineers).
  • Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).
  • Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $218,025 — $256,500 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).

  • Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites multiple times annually). #LI-Remote
