The Institutional Product Group builds products for institutional customers (Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Advanced Trade, Prime - Custody Only, Prime Web3 Wallet, Commerce and Exchange) across trading, staking, governance, custody, web3 operations, and API integrations.

The Coinbase Prime Trading Interfaces team focuses on algorithmic trading systems and public-facing APIs that enable communication between end users and algos. The system is designed for high resilience and fault tolerance (99.99% uptime) across critical user journeys such as placing trades, canceling orders, streaming market data and generating reports. The system handles streaming and unary requests with millions of requests per day across multiple endpoints and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5–6 engineers.
• Establish team mechanisms and norms for effective and efficient execution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners on product and operational strategies.
• Coordinate with QA to triage incoming issues.
• Monitor and triage issues with downstream partners.
• Establish operating metrics and ensure they are met.
• Own product surface areas and features, including Prime Public APIs, Prime Public FIX, and the Trading Router.
• Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Work with talent organization to identify and recruit engineers who align with Coinbase's culture.

Requirements

• Experience building and managing full-stack engineering teams, guiding development of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Ability to coach direct reports to support career growth and have a positive organizational impact.
• Experience collaborating with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a roadmap and break down complex projects.
• Strong technical judgment to aid in architectural decisions and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering practices.
• Experience delivering and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Experience establishing operating metrics and meeting SLAs.
• Comfort coordinating with QA, operations, and downstream partners on incident triage and product/operational reliability.

Nice to haves

• Managing backend-centric or full-stack teams and products.
• Hands-on experience in technical architecture.
• Experience with highly distributed systems built for scale in cloud-centric environments.

Work arrangement & expectations

• Many Coinbase roles are remote-first but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually). Attendance is expected and supported.
• Depending on your work location, compensation and benefits may vary.

Pay Range

• Target annual salary: $218,025 — $256,500 USD. Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
