Eneco is committed to accelerating the energy transition by developing smart digital systems and scalable technologies. Within the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Core Domain, the team designs and maintains systems critical to the stability of the Dutch national grid. As an Engineering Manager you will lead a backend engineering team building mission-critical, event-driven, cloud-native systems that power tomorrow's energy infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a high-performing backend engineering team working on systems that control and monitor essential Dutch energy assets.
- Provide technical direction and people leadership, including hiring, onboarding, development, and 1-to-1s.
- Shape architectural strategy and make strategic technical decisions for distributed, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures.
- Ensure delivery of secure, scalable, and high-performance backend solutions that meet SLOs and reliability targets.
- Act as a technical ambassador to senior stakeholders, product partners, and leadership.
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, ownership, and accountability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers and partners to align technical outcomes with product objectives.
- Champion observability, metrics, and monitoring to support reliability and operations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years in an engineering management role.
- Strong background in .NET and C# for building high-performance backend systems.
- Proficiency in Azure and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code (example: Terraform).
- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (examples: MongoDB, Cosmos DB).
- Experience with messaging technologies (examples: Kafka, Event Hubs, RabbitMQ).
- Proven leadership skills in team building, mentorship, architectural decision-making, and delivery.
- (Optional) Exposure to Vue.js is a plus.
Where you’ll work / Contract
- Location: Eneco - Rotterdam, Netherlands.
- Working hours: 32 - 40 hours per week.
- Hybrid working model: work 40% at the office, 40% from home, 20% flexibly. With manager approval, you may work abroad (within approved countries) up to 3 weeks/year (max 2 consecutively).

- Gross annual salary between €95,000 and €140,000 (including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance; depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing may apply).
