The Platform Product Group builds trusted, scalable, and compliant platform services critical to Coinbase, including Identity, Payment, Risk, Proofing & Regulatory, Finhub, Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure. The Risk Platform Team focuses on managing financial risks by building flexible, scalable, and customizable engineering systems to detect and prevent fraud across real-time, near‑real‑time, and scheduled workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the multi-year strategy for Payments Risk engineering in collaboration with cross-functional partners (MLE, MLP, Risk Analysts).
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering professional growth and career development.
• Provide technical leadership and support teams in making sound architectural decisions.
• Ensure engineering quality and reliability through adherence to SLAs and operational best practices.
• Partner with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Recruit and hire engineers in collaboration with the talent team.
• Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, triage and troubleshoot bugs when needed.
• Foster a positive, inclusive team culture aligned with Coinbase values.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• At least 1 year of experience in Risk, Machine Learning and/or Payments domain.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code, software engineering processes, and operational excellence.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Execution-focused mindset; able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results while balancing long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Ability to be hands-on when required (writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, or triaging bugs).
• Passion for building an open financial system and working in a mission-driven, high‑performance environment.

Nice to haves

• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
• Exposure to or hands-on experience with online fraud prevention systems.

Compensation & Pay Transparency

• Pay Range: $217,900—$217,900 CAD (target annual salary).
• Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
