Sentry builds performance and error monitoring tools used by developers worldwide. The Product Platform team owns shared systems within the core product (IAM, billing, and framework-layer interfaces) inside a monolithic Python/Django application that processes tens of billions of events per day and operates distributed systems across regions. This role leads a team of platform engineers to deliver robust, scalable product features and own platform-level technical direction.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform engineers; conduct regular 1:1s and support career development.
- Define and drive the team's roadmap, aligning team goals with organizational objectives and platform strategy.
- Provide technical guidance on complex distributed systems and software design.
- Partner with business operations, security, product, and design to translate objectives into scalable solutions.
- Define and implement processes and automations for reliable 24x7 operational coverage; proactively identify improvement areas.
- Communicate team progress, challenges, and strategy to senior leadership and stakeholders; represent the team internally and externally (e.g., blog posts, presentations).
- Participate actively in hiring to expand the team and attract top talent.
Requirements
- 3+ years leading engineers.
- 5+ years professional engineering experience, preferably with Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (or similar).
- Experience with Python and Django (the team operates a monolithic Python/Django application).
- Strong background in distributed systems, state synchronization across regions, and integration layers.
- Experience with IAM and/or billing systems.
- Product-minded leadership: experience scoping, estimating, allocating resources, and driving execution for product outcomes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- Experience mentoring engineers through career progression.
