Team Description

Staking is the #3 revenue-generating product at Coinbase ($700M+ ARR in 2024). The Staking Platform team builds platform services to empower high quality staking products for our retail and institutional customers. People don’t just buy/sell crypto, they “earn” on crypto, and in the meantime provide security and decentralization for underlying blockchain networks.

We’re looking for an experienced engineering lead with a solid backend / distributed system background and experience leading platform teams. You’ll be leading a high performance team responsible for abstracting blockchain complexities into simple and easy-to-use platform APIs for all product teams at Coinbase.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage engineering teams, to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure.
• Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap. Break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work closely with talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years software engineering experience.
• Minimum 2 years engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, fostering such principles.
• Execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on when needed – writing/reviewing code, technical docs, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, troubleshooting bugs.
• Passion for building an open financial system driven to excel in this role.
