Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, Coinbase is seeking an experienced engineering manager for the Staking Platform team. The team builds platform services to empower high-quality staking products for retail and institutional customers. You will lead a high-performance team responsible for abstracting blockchain complexities into simple, easy-to-use platform APIs for all product teams at Coinbase.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage engineering teams to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure.
  • Coach direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
  • Serve as a thoughtful technical voice, aid in architectural decisions, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with Product and other Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Work closely with talent acquisition to recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase culture.
  • Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
  • Be hands-on when needed: write/review code or technical docs, participate in on-call rotations and incident leadership, triage/troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
  • Execution-focused mindset; comfortable navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Comfortable being hands-on (code reviews, on-call rotations, incident leadership, troubleshooting).
  • Passion for building an open financial system and strong interest in crypto and blockchain technology.

Nice to Haves

  • Embody Coinbase values (clear communication, act like an owner, customer focus).
  • High operational excellence.
  • Experience with large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems and data pipelines.
  • Experience with blockchains (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) and familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).

Compensation & Additional Info

  • Pay Range: $211,650 — $249,000 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers may also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits).
