Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Tax laws around the world are complex and ever-changing – are you up for the challenge of simplifying them? We're making taxes easier for thousands of global businesses, so they can focus on what they do best: growing.

Solving tax compliance is a top ask from our users. We launched Stripe Tax as a new SaaS product in 2021 to help solve this pain point and make tax compliance as effortless as possible. The Stripe Tax Capabilities team is Europe-based and focuses on building a scalable and reliable platform that accelerates product development, reduces long-term maintenance costs, and enables new business capabilities across Stripe and its partners.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a highly experienced leader with a proven track record in developing and executing a multi-year strategy, developing partnerships with third-party partners, driving execution on complex cross-functional initiatives, building a scalable and reliable platform, upholding engineering standards, and recruiting and developing engineers.

You will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of large-scale technical efforts and will serve as a world-class coach and leader for Stripe engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Enable the team to work with a wide range of systems, processes, and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end.
  • Develop and execute a multi-year strategy for your team. You'll translate the high-level vision into a clear, ambitious, and executable plan for your team.
  • Develop new and existing partnerships with the Stripe 3P partners in the tax compliance scene.
  • Develop a scalable and reliable platform that accelerates development, reduces long-term maintenance costs, and enables new business capabilities across Stripe and its partners.
  • Drive execution on complex, ambiguous, and cross-functional initiatives. You'll be the key leader responsible for solving systemic issues, managing dependencies, and collaborating with senior counterparts in Product, Partnership, Design, and other orgs to deliver results.
  • Uphold and advance the bar for your function. Instill a culture of operational excellence, meticulous craftsmanship, and rigorous thinking.
  • Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe’s recruiting team
  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers. Be a world-class coach who is deeply invested in the career growth and development of your direct reports.
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience managing teams that shipped high-quality products.
  • Strong strategic and product thinking, with a demonstrated ability to set and execute on a multi-year vision to deliver quantifiable business impact.
  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Customer obsession, with the ability to articulate and represent the customer experience in various forums to drive the right outcome that benefits our customers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with senior, cross-functional and 3P partners.
  • A genuine enjoyment of learning and diving into the nuts and bolts of how things work - in this role, you’ll learn lots about the intricacies of tax compliance, across multiple countries and industries
  • A proven track record of hiring, coaching, and developing high-performing engineers.

Preferred qualifications

  • Have experience with financial product companies and interest in financial products and markets.

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €132,000 - €198,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
