Airbnb's Tax Platform team builds a scalable, configurable tax platform that minimizes risk, ensures compliance, and delivers a seamless user experience across many jurisdictions. The team owns guest- and host-facing product experiences and backend systems that enable Airbnb to operate globally. This role partners closely with Operations, Product, Policy, Legal, Pricing, and Payments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow an engineering team focused on tax platform capabilities, recruiting top engineering talent and fostering a culture of craftsmanship and excellence.
  • Establish technical vision and alignment within engineering and across cross-functional partners.
  • Architect, build, and maintain flexible, always-available, efficient services that scale with business needs.
  • Collaborate with Product, Partnerships, Pricing, Payments, Data Engineering, Data Science, and Tax Operations to define strategy and drive delivery.
  • Manage dependencies across parallel tracks of work and contribute to technical quality practices and roadmaps.
  • Coach and mentor engineers with empathy, create career development and mentorship plans for ICs.
  • Refine team processes to enable effective prioritization, planning, and sprint execution.
  • Represent the Tax team in leadership meetings and collaborate across geographies (India and the US).
  • Drive metrics to measure the success of initiatives and support large-scale technical transformations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience and 4+ years of hands-on technical management experience.
  • Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA).
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through large-scale technical transformations and managing cross-team dependencies.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and direction independently, including when Product Management is not present.
  • Track record contributing to technical quality practices and organizational roadmaps.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across engineering and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and creating development plans for individual contributors.
  • Previous experience building tax programs and systems is a plus.
  • Experience working on product teams or customer-centric software for medium-to-large engineering organizations is a plus.

Location & Working Model

  • This position is US - Remote Eligible. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed with your manager.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay range: $204,000β€”$255,000 USD. The actual base pay depends on factors such as experience, skills, and business needs.
  • This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
