As Engineering Manager, you will lead a diverse cross-functional team of data engineers, machine learning engineers, software developers, and analysts to build reliable, scalable data infrastructure and applications for energy trading. You will set technical direction together with a product manager, mentor engineers and data experts, and ensure high-quality, impactful solutions that balance reliability, performance, cost and security.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of data and machine learning engineers and developers, fostering technical excellence, continuous improvement, and team well-being.
  • Partner with product managers and stakeholders (traders, quants, analysts, business owners) to align engineering with business needs and translate those needs into a clear technical strategy.
  • Build and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure data infrastructure and applications for energy trading, ensuring quality through strong engineering practices in code quality, observability and architecture.
  • Oversee taking data, machine learning and data science processes from concept to production with focus on reliability, cost optimisation and system performance.
  • Ensure strong practices around SRE/DevOps: CI/CD, testing, version control, incident management, technical debt management, refactoring and migrations with attention to security and compliance.
  • Contribute to review and improvement of business processes and systems to enhance the effective use of technology.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing engineering teams, mentoring developers, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
  • Strong skills in software development, SRE and DevOps best practices (CI/CD, testing, version control, incident management, technical debt management, refactoring, migrations).
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing infrastructure scopes and taking data/ML processes from concept to production with emphasis on reliability, cost optimisation and robust system design.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles including ETL, data and information modeling, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred), Databricks, Snowflake, DBT, and Kubernetes.
  • Awareness of security and compliance standards for domains with sensitive data.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders in energy trading (traders, quants, analysts, business owners).

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing, building or managing technical infrastructure and platforms for trading systems (ideally commodities markets).
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment pipelines.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, data science, analytics and algorithmic trading processes and techniques.

  • Gross annual salary between €95.000 and €145.000 (including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance; depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing may apply).
