The Youth Well-Being product team is part of the Integrity pillar at OpenAI, responsible for ensuring that state-of-the-art AI technologies are deployed in safe, age-appropriate, and beneficial ways—especially for youth and families. The team works across OpenAI’s product surface area (including ChatGPT and future-facing tools) to architect safety and trust into systems and to meet high standards of regulatory compliance and ethical responsibility.

This role is an engineering leadership position focused on building foundational systems that power family- and youth-facing experiences at scale. You will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, designers, user researchers, and policy experts to design safe, privacy-preserving, and compliant experiences for teens and guardians.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and manage a diverse, high-performing engineering team; grow and advance engineers' careers.
  • Guide implementation of teen and guardian experiences across OpenAI products, including ChatGPT.
  • Build global age-assurance systems that are privacy-preserving and tailored to regional compliance needs.
  • Design and evolve identity infrastructure to support scalable, secure, and resilient user journeys at consumer-internet scale.
  • Help define safety and well-being metrics and continuously improve user trust through technical interventions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data science, design, user research, and policy teams to align technical work with product and compliance goals.
  • Close competitive candidates and craft/communicate a compelling technical and product vision.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams (ideally in a closely related domain).
  • Experience in trust & safety, youth well-being, anti-fraud, or anti-abuse spaces.
  • Ability to dive into codebases, develop strong technical intuition, and provide concrete engineering direction.
  • Experience designing identity systems and scalable consumer-facing infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with privacy-preserving approaches and regional compliance requirements.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to build thoughtful, high-performing team cultures.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions; able to add structure as needed.
  • Strong desire to learn and to teach/share expertise clearly with others.
