Details
OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production‑grade AI systems. FDE sits at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Research, and GTM. The team embeds deeply with users to solve high‑leverage problems, surface patterns that shape the platform, and translate customer signal into durable solutions and product direction.
Responsibilities
- Own FDE onboarding end-to-end, designing and operating a structured ramp experience that helps new team members become effective quickly in a complex technical environment.
- Build and evolve the team’s enablement infrastructure, including onboarding pathways, playbooks, learning assets, and knowledge systems to continuously upskill the FDE team and embed AI‑first tools and workflows into day‑to‑day execution.
- Partner with adjacent field, deployment, and partner teams to build enablement programs, resources, and operating mechanisms that improve coordination and execution across closely related functions.
- Codify patterns and lessons from FDE deployments into reusable resources that reduce repeated learning and strengthen execution across the organization.
- Operate the core cadence behind onboarding and enablement, including program planning, stakeholder coordination, content refresh, and session scheduling.
- Measure ramp and enablement effectiveness through adoption signals, feedback loops, and performance outcomes, and use that data to continually improve the system.
Requirements
- 5+ years in onboarding program management, enablement, learning and development, operations, or similar roles supporting technical teams in fast‑paced, high‑ambiguity environments.
- Experience building or running onboarding and enablement programs that help new hires ramp quickly and become effective in complex technical roles.
- Experience translating emerging AI capabilities into practical workflows that improve how technical teams operate.
- Experience building programs that serve more than one closely related team or function, balancing shared standards with role‑specific needs.
- Strong ability to bring structure to ambiguity and turn fast‑changing or informal knowledge into clear, repeatable systems.
- Comfortable working across teams and driving alignment with stakeholders across FDE leadership, Engineering, Product, and GTM.
- Use data, feedback, and adoption signals to improve programs over time rather than treating rollout as the finish line.
- This role is based in San Francisco and uses a hybrid work model (3 days in the office per week). Relocation assistance is offered to new employees.
Benefits
- Base salary range listed: $162K–$180K; offers equity and other total compensation components that vary by factors such as location and experience.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
- Pre‑tax accounts: Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter benefits.
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
- Paid parental leave and paid medical/caregiver leave; flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non‑exempt employees.
- 13+ paid company holidays and company office closures, plus paid sick or safe time as required by law.
- Mental health and wellness support; employer‑paid basic life and disability coverage.
- Annual learning and development stipend.
- Daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
- Relocation support for eligible employees and additional fringe benefits (charitable donation matching, wellness stipends, etc.).
