The Social Products team explores how to redesign familiar social products using the intelligence of our models to solve their problems. The team envisions returning to a world where social media is a positive force.

This role sits on the Social Products team within Applied AI. As a Full-Stack Software Engineer you will imagine, prototype, and ship new social experiences within the OpenAI ecosystem. You will work across the stack—building frontend and backend features, processing data, and collaborating closely with designers and product partners—to create social product surfaces that drive discovery, connection, and virality. Work will include developing production systems on top of the high-scale internal platforms that power ChatGPT and the OpenAI API, and designing new systems when existing ones aren’t sufficient.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and iterate quickly on new social product features, exploring how AI can improve connection, creativity, and shared experiences.
• Turn ideas into functional demos and ship code early and often, using real-world feedback to guide iteration.
• Scale the strongest ideas from prototype to production using OpenAI’s internal platforms and designing new systems when needed.
• Work across the full stack to build social product features from early experiments through launch.
• Collaborate closely with research, product, design, data science, and engineering partners to drive meaningful impact.
• Learn from and contribute alongside deeply tenured engineers while fostering a high-trust, inclusive, and candid team culture.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and shipping full-stack apps end-to-end — from prototype to traction — in fast-moving, startup-like environments.
• Comfortable operating with ambiguity and turning one-sentence ideas into launched features.
• Ability to prototype, iterate, and scale production systems; work across frontend and backend and process data as needed.
• Strong collaboration skills; comfortable working closely with product, design, research, and data science partners.
• Fluency across multiple programming languages and frameworks; ability to choose the right tools to get the job done efficiently.

• Base pay range: $210,000 - $325,000 per year. Offers equity and additional performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees.
