The Strategic Finance team at OpenAI builds forecasting capabilities to inform high-stakes decisions across product, engineering, and go-to-market. This role leads a small, hands-on team of applied data scientists and ML engineers to develop production-ready, interpretable, and scalable forecasting systems that predict metrics such as DAU/WAU, revenue, compute consumption, and profitability. You will partner closely with Strategic Finance and Growth to operationalize forecasts and influence company-wide strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a team of applied data scientists and ML engineers to develop forecasting platforms at scale.
  • Design and own the roadmap for a forecasting platform in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Integrate forecasts into Strategic Finance planning processes and executive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to drive adoption of scientific, automated forecasting solutions.
  • Own the end-to-end modeling lifecycle: scoping, feature engineering, model development and prototyping, experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and explainability.
  • Research and evaluate emerging tools and techniques in forecasting.
  • Translate technical outputs into business-aligned recommendations and decision frameworks.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building production-ready models for time series and forecasting applications.
  • Proven track record building adjustable and explainable forecast models across planning cycles.
  • 10+ years of applied data science and engineering experience with deep hands-on expertise in forecasting and predictive modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience with model monitoring, debugging, and long-term maintenance in production environments.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; able to simplify complexity and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Team leadership experience with a track record of building high-performing, engaged teams.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research).
  • Self-directed, intellectually curious, and comfortable leading ambiguous projects from 0β†’1.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment: flexible, resourceful, and results-oriented.

Location & Work Model

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $390,000 – $490,000 (offers equity and other total compensation components such as performance-related bonus(es)).
