Details

The Employee Tech & Experience (ETX) team shapes how every OpenAI employee interacts with technology. ETX ensures employees can work securely, effortlessly, and at velocity by owning helpdesk, systems operations, and asset logistics with a design-first mindset. The team is reimagining internal technology as a seamless, AI-augmented experience that anticipates needs and reduces friction.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA and follows a hybrid model (3 days in office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance to eligible new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ETX across Helpdesk, SysOps, and Logistics & Asset Management.
  • Scale global support while improving reliability, security, and speed.
  • Redesign IT processes to proactively eliminate friction and repetitive "paper cuts."
  • Shift from ticket-based operations to proactive, data-driven experience management.
  • Use AI and automation to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and streamline workflows.
  • Expand self-service and zero-touch systems to empower users.
  • Design automation that removes steps rather than merely accelerating them.
  • Unify procurement and lifecycle operations for efficiency and transparency.
  • Maintain accurate asset tracking and end-to-end ownership for all employees.
  • Maintain operational effectiveness on embedded controls and compliance.
  • Build employee experience metrics to measure reliability, performance, and effort required to get work done.
  • Use data to identify and eliminate recurring friction points and prioritize reductions in repetitive work and handoffs.
  • Define and publish SLAs that reflect required speed, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Build a culture of craftsmanship, curiosity, and continuous improvement; develop future IT leaders.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Security, Workplace, and People Tech to ensure endpoint, VDI, and deployment platforms land smoothly and reliably.

Requirements

  • 10+ years leading high-impact technology or operations teams in high-growth environments, with a strong track record of developing managers and future leaders.
  • Proven experience scaling teams through hypergrowth, from early build-out to mature, global operations.
  • Strong people leadership: hiring thoughtfully, coaching, and building high-trust teams.
  • Experience shifting organizations from reactive support to proactive, data- and automation-driven operations.
  • Comfortable leading cross-functional change and bringing clarity and focus as priorities evolve quickly.
  • Experience with helpdesk operations, systems operations (SysOps), asset/logistics management, procurement and lifecycle processes, and embedded controls/compliance.
  • Familiarity using data and metrics to drive improvements, defining SLAs, and leveraging AI/automation to streamline employee-facing workflows.

Benefits

  • Base salary range: $225,000 – $325,000 (offers equity and additional total compensation components such as bonuses and equity).
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts (Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, commuter benefits).
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Paid parental leave, paid medical and caregiver leave, flexible PTO, and paid company holidays/closures.
  • Mental health and wellness support; employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.
  • Additional taxable fringe benefits such as charitable donation matching and wellness stipends.

Additional Notes

  • Background checks are administered in accordance with applicable law; role requires access to secure IT systems and confidential information.
  • OpenAI is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities.
